So tonight I had gone out to my Uncle Dan’s house to have a baby shower for my cousin Jen and to see family I hadn’t seen in months.

Though I missed the shower due to lack of information I got to see my second cousin Charley. He’s the oldest boy of my cousin Sam. Charley is all energy and smiles at the age 5. Like any one in our family, he is brought up with good manners. He sat next to me during dinner and I could hardly believe how polite we raise our kids. Compared to the screeching, nagging, rude little things I have seen running around lately at grocery stores and such. I had almost decided that I did not like kids, until Charley comes in and says “yum yum yummy!” as he finishes his burger without complaint.

After dinner the youngin’s went downstairs with a few older cousins and were playing Mario Cart on the Wii. I was talking to another cousin and used the phrase “back in the day”. Charley, ever so seriously says, “I’ll be back tonight! And so will you!” It was the sweetest, most naive moment I have been witness to. I am so happy I got to see my little Charley. He even gave me a big hug before I left!

If that doesn’t take the world off your shoulders I do not know what will.

After the long trek back from Wisconsin my dear friend Alex wanted to try on her wedding dress that is hanging in my room. (My mom is doing the alterations for her).

And while she was trying it on again and I was following her around, holding the train. Which was rather fun I must admit,  she looks so beautiful in her dress. Anyway, I got to thinking, and a part of me remembered back from when I was young and how often marriage was the topic of play. There we stood, the older versions of those little girls and it wasn’t play anymore. It was real. Alex has found her prince charming and I am still fiercely single.
We didn’t know each other when we were little, but every little girl plays the same game. The only thing that really changes is her taste in the guy, what his name should be, what he should look like, and how and what he saved her from and then where they get married.

It was a moment worth remembering. When dreams become a reality. 4 months count down.
